Charlottenburg
The Charlottenburger , also called Charlie or Berliner , is a printed cloth in which the traveling journeyman wraps his belongings .
nature
It is approximately 80 cm × 80 cm in size, but it can also be a little larger. The finished bundle is also called Charlie . A spirit level or the bar of a frame saw goes through the middle of the artistically tied bundle , at the end of which the carrying straps are attached.
designation
The name is said to have its origin in the Prussian city of Charlottenburg (part of Berlin since 1920 ). There, the journeymen with the usual fur irons were not allowed in, as lice and other vermin could easily get in there. Because of the Charlottenburg rule, it became common to transport belongings in cloths instead of with a backpack.
Further meaning
In Berlin , Charlottenburger also refers to a common blowing method used by athletes, construction workers or other people who simply discharge their nasal secretions onto the floor.
