In the Federal German Chemicals Sanctions Ordinance (formerly Chemicals Penal and Fines Ordinance ), the federal government designates those violations of directly applicable regulations in legal acts of the European Communities (EC) or European Union (EU) on chemicals law that are classified as administrative offenses or criminal offenses under the Chemicals Act are penalized. The listed provisions of these EU regulations apply without special implementation in national law, but the sanctions necessary for enforcement are reserved for the individual member states.
