Chicago Temple
The Chicago Temple is a skyscraper in Chicago with a height of 169 meters (other sources speak of 173 meters) and 29 floors. It was built between 1922 and 1923 according to the plans of the architectural firm Holabird & Roche on behalf of the Methodist Episcopal Congregation (parish of the Episcopal Methodist Church ), the oldest parish in the city (founded in 1831).
use
The first United Methodist Church in Chicago is located on the ground floor with approx. 1000 seats, while the second floor has a chapel, other church rooms and the administration of the parish. Above, on the third and fourth floors, there are rooms for the Sunday school , a conference room and a room for the church choir. The next 17 floors to the 21st floor are offices that are mainly rented to lawyers.
Above it is the Sky Chapel , which was donated in 1952 by the family of Myrtle Walgreen, at a height of around 120 meters . The top of the building in the form of a Gothic church tower rises to a height of 169 or 173 meters. Since it is not a pure church building, it is not the highest church tower in the world , but it is the highest church spire in the world, measured from street level.
