The Chichontepec , Volcán de San Vicente or Las Chiches is the second highest volcano in El Salvador . It is a stratovolcano . In Nahuat , Chichotepec means "mountain of two breasts". The two peaks are 2,173 and 2,083 meters above sea level. It is cone-shaped with a crater opening to the east. On the south side of the volcano there are thermal springs called Infiernillos , which emit sulphurous steam. The valley of the Río Jiboa, one of the most productive agricultural areas of El Salvador, extends from the volcano to the north.
