Chief Procurement Officer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chief Procurement Officer , sometimes also Chief Purchase Officer (abbreviated CPO, German  Purchasing Manager ) is a functional designation from the Anglo-Saxon region.

The CPO is responsible for procurement within a company. In German companies, the function roughly corresponds to the head of purchasing in a GmbH or the head of procurement / purchasing in an AG, where this manager reports directly to the board of directors in 70% of all large German companies (2005). Procurement management has a dominant role in cost management. In companies in which raw material procurement or purchasing play a strategic role, a CPO is often a member of the board himself, for example the board member for purchasing in retail groups such as the Otto Group . The function of the Chief Procurement Officer is of great importance in companies, as purchasing is responsible for up to more than 70% of a company's total expenditure. This position therefore not only has a significant impact on costs, but also on the company's liquidity.
