Chikubushima (Nō)

Chikubushima ( Japanese 竹 生 島 ) is the title of a drama by Komparu Zenchiku (1405-1470). It is a first game in the Nō category.

action

  1. Act:
    1. An emissary from Emperor Daigo appears with followers. You want to visit Lake Biwa , which you will eventually reach.
    2. A fisherman appears in the boat. A girl from the lake is with him.
    3. The emissary asks the fisherman to drive him to the island. The fisherman explains and praises the lake, along with the island and the shrine on it.
    4. The emissary is surprised that a girl is Kahn with him, when access to the island is forbidden to women. Dialogue, chorus. More and more he comes to the realization that something special must be present here.
    5. Interlude: Further explanations about the treasures of the shrine and the treasure ship.
  2. Act:
    1. The divine virgin Benzaiten appears. Dance of the Sky Maiden. The dragon god himself appears with a quick flute, offering the dragon jewel to the court. Praise choir.
