Komparu Zenchiku

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Komparu Zenchiku ( Japanese 金 春 禅 竹 , * 1405 ; † around 1470), real name: Shichirō Ujinobu ( 七郎 氏 信 ), was a Japanese actor and playwright.

The grandson of the actor Komparu gon no Kami was a student of Zeami Motokiyo and probably also his son-in-law. He combined Zen Buddhist ideas with Nō drama and founded his own drama school, which was continued by his grandson Komparu Zempō and his descendants.

In addition to Nō plays, Konparu wrote several theoretical writings, including Rokurin ichiro no ki ( 六 輪 一 露 之 記 , literally: "Record of the six circles and a dewdrop"), which stimulated generations of scholars to ever new interpretations.
