Chillstep is a subgenre of the electronic music genre Dubstep , which became known through the Internet (especially through the video platform YouTube ). Chillstep is also known as "Melodic Dubstep".
development
The term “chillstep” is made up of the words “to chill” (to relax) and “dubstep” (electronic music genre). It has been used for songs of this type since the spring of 2011 when some Internet users began to refer to quieter dubstep songs as chillstep. The term for this then new subgenre was taken up by electronic artists, and they soon began to call music in this style a chill step.
Since then, Chillstep has established itself as a genre of its own, with numerous differences to Dubstep.
style
In contrast to dubstep, chillstep is often accompanied by louder bass and softer and slower beats. Chillstep has an average of 120-140 BPM . Chillstep is often referred to by listeners as melodic dubstep, as a chillstep song focuses more on the melody than a complex beat. This style can be found on Massive Attack (album Paradise Circus ), Lightscape ( Escape This Moment ) and Phaeleh ( So Far Away ) , among others .
