Choke package

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A choke-packet ( Engl. : Choke - throttle ) is a method for eliminating overload in a network . An explicit request from the overloaded points is sent to the polluter to reduce the network load. Choke packets are therefore part of the out of band traffic jam signals. The ICMP Source Quench Packet (ICMP Type 4) is an example of a choke packet.
