The Seefeld-Kadolz cholera cemetery was a plague cemetery in the market town of Seefeld-Kadolz in the Hollabrunn district in Lower Austria .

history

In 1831 cholera broke out in the two towns of Seefeld and Großkadolz . 38 people died.

Since the local cemeteries were not sufficient and for reasons of disease protection, an emergency cemetery was created as a mass grave . 21 of the victims were buried here outside the villages ( ) south of the settlement not far from the road to Obritz (today L3).

graveyard

The burial ground measured 40 x 20  steps (about 30 x 15 meters) and was surrounded by a moat.

In 1928 the cholera cemetery was leveled and has been part of a field ever since.

memorial

In 1989 the local Horst Beer set up a small memorial with a cross in the style of the cemetery from 1831. It is about 100 meters from the original site on the edge of the field next to the road ( ). An old wayside cross was used, the Seefelder Fellner Kreuz , which originally stood at the intersection of Seefelder Kellern - Kadolzer Kellern. The cross is bordered with a fence.

The cross shows the inscription:

19th I am with you
until the end of days
89

There is a small description of the cholera cemetery on the shaft.
