Chongwu
Chongwu ( Chinese 崇武 镇 , Pinyin Chóngwǔ Zhèn - " appreciation of weapons") is a large community on the Chongwu peninsula of the same name in Hui'an County in the northeast of the Chinese city of Quanzhou in Fujian Province . The place was founded in 1387 to repel attacks by Japanese pirates. The granite city wall is 2,455 meters long, seven meters high and has 1,304 loopholes and four gates. It is the best preserved of the three Chinese stone-walled cities.
Granite processing is an important branch of industry in the community. Mainly temple figures and stone lamps are made.
The city wall of Chongwu has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 1988 .
