Chono

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The tribe of Chono populated the island of Chiloe and the south thereof islands and fjords to the peninsula Taitao in Southern Chile . Only about six words of their language have survived. They lived as nomads from fishing and after the arrival of the European settlers died out or became part of the population of the island of Chiloé ( mestizos ). The last Chono were spotted during an expedition in 1835.

The Chonos Archipelago is named after the Chono tribe . The same applies to Cerro Chonos on Livingston Island in Antarctica.
