Christopher Lee Barker (born May 13, 1980 ), better known as Chris # 2 , is the bassist, singer and songwriter of the political punk band Anti-Flag . He has the nickname # 2 because he is the second "Chris" in Anti-Flag after Chris Head.

biography

Chris was the oldest of a working class American family from Pittsburgh . He was interested in political topics such as Marxism , animal rights and anarchism from an early age . He also became a vegan at the age of 14 . Has been active in the punk and hardcore scene in Pittsburgh for some time , and at the age of 16 he became a big fan of the punk band Anti-Flag. Three years later, after kicking their bassist Andy Flag, Chris decided to apply for the vacant position.

Anti flag

Initially he was still a rhythm guitarist (Chris Head played bass), but a short time later he was converted into a bassist. He had to learn the instrument from scratch. At the age of 19 he played the album A New Kind of Army , which was previously recorded with Andy Flag . Two years later the new Anti-Flag album Underground Network came out, in which Chris # 2 (until 2001 still referred to as # 2 Chris ) was actively involved in songwriting for the first time. It was followed by the albums Mobilize (2002), The Terror State (2003) and For Blood And Empire (2006).

In 2007, one year after the release of their most commercially successful album, For Blood And Empire , the band announced the death of Chris' sister. Shortly thereafter, the EP A Benefit For Victims Of Violent Crime came out, the proceeds of which went to the Center For Victims Of Violence And Crime in Pittsburgh.

Whatever It Takes

At the end of 2003, Chris # 2 started the Whatever It Takes project . The punk band released the album A Fistful Of Revolution on AF Records that same year . In 2006 he officially broke up the band to devote himself to his main band Anti-Flag.

White Wives

White Wives is a punk rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, founded by Chris # 2 and Roger Harvey in the summer of 2010.

Equipment

Both in the studio and live, Chris # 2 uses a Fender Precision bass and an Ampeg SVT amplifier . For a short time he also played an ESP-LTD Vintage Bass with PJ pickups. This Machine Kills Fascists is written on his bass guitar (based on Woody Guthrie ).
