Christian Classics Ethereal Library

The Christian Classics Ethereal Library (Classical Christian Texts Electronic), abbreviated to CCEL , is a project by American theologians and philologists . The project intends to publish the 1000 most important classical texts of theology (and also of philosophy ), which are in the public domain, in electronic form.

aims

  • a good English translation of the Bible should be available.
  • the topics should be important to theology students.
  • Comments, dictionaries, lexicons, and other reference works should be included
  • Classical sermons and sermon commentaries should be included
  • The Bible and other important works should be included in the original language as well as in English
  • Greek and Hebrew study tools are to be made available

Management and editing

The CCEL is currently maintained and published at Calvin College (Michigan, USA). From 1995 to 1999 it was based at Wheaton College , Illinois, and before that at the University of Pittsburgh (1993–1995). It is currently headed by Harry Plantinga, Professor of Computer Science at Calvin College.
