Christian van den Canel

Christian van den Canel (* 14th century ; † around 1401 in Aachen ) was aldermen and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

Christian van den Canel was first mentioned in 1382 as a member of the aldermen's college. In 1385, as a representative of Aachen, van den Canel belonged to the besiegers of Reifferscheid Castle together with the friendly troops of the Maas-Rhein peace alliance . Johann V. von Reifferscheid was accused of numerous raids in the near and far surroundings and of breaching the peace. The siege itself was initially unsuccessful and the Alliance troops withdrew after three months of unsuccessful things. Nevertheless, the Landfriedensbund was able to commit Johann V. von Reifferscheid to an eight-year peace treaty. Finally, van den Canel was elected Mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in 1387, 1389 and 1392 .

Van den Canel died around 1401 and left numerous estates and buildings to his family. He was married to Nese, the daughter of former mayor Arnold Volmer, and had several children with her.
