Christina Bjørkøe

Christina Bjørkøe (* 1970 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish pianist .

Life

Christina Bjørkøe received her first piano lessons from her mother at the age of five. In 1978 she became a student of Therese Koppel, who she taught until 1990. She continued her studies with Seymour Lipkin at the Juilliard School in New York and with Anne Øland at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where she made her debut as a soloist in 1987.

She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in various locations in Denmark, including the Tivoli Concert Hall with a large Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert series, and has also performed in China, Sweden, Poland, Germany, in in the Czech Republic, France and the USA. Christina Bjørkøe has performed with several Danish orchestras, with the Czech Chamber Philharmonic, the Recife Festival Orchestra in Brazil, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra Sweden and the Iceland Philharmonic Orchestra and has accompanied singers at recitals in Croatia, Spain, Germany and South America .

Christina Bjørkøe is an Assistant Professor at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music Odense.

Awards

In 1987 and 1990 Christina Bjørkøe won first prize in the "Steinway Competition". In 1995 she represented in Denmark as a finalist in the "Nordic Soloist Competition" in Reykjavík. She received several prizes and grants (e.g. the "Victor Borges Legat" in September 1994, the "Carl Nielsen Rejselegat" in June 1995, the "Bikubens Chamber Music Prize" in August 1995, the "Ännchen og Eigil Harby's Fund" in October 1995 and the “Gladsaxe Music Prize” in February 2000).

Discography

Christina Bjørkøe's recording of Knudåge Risager's piano music for Dacapo received the “Danish Music Award 2005” for solo recording of the year. She has also published solo and chamber music by Herman D. Koppel and Niels Viggo Bentzon on Dacapo. She also recorded the piano music by Carl Nielsen for CPO.
