Christ Church (Wesel)

The Christ Church is a Protestant church in the Wesel district of Flüren . The church, consecrated in 1965, has a free-standing tower.

location

The Christ Church is located in the north-western Wesel district of Flüren. It is located on Flürener Weg a little north of the central Flürener market square. The church building is located within a residential area. Only a few hundred meters to the northwest, however, the Flürener Wald begins, which together with the Diersfordter Wald forms an extensive forest area northwest of Wesel.

history

Before the Second World War, Flüren, as a village with a few hundred inhabitants , did not have its own Protestant church, unlike the surrounding villages such as Bislich , Diersfordt and the city of Wesel. After the war there was a strong increase in the population and Flüren became a residential area near the city with several thousand inhabitants. After a Protestant parish hall with a hall for church services had already been established in 1958, construction of the church began in 1963. The building with a free-standing tower was inaugurated on June 20, 1965. In 1971 the church received an organ built by Hermann Eule Orgelbau Bautzen from the former GDR. In the second half of 2013, extensive renovation work was carried out on the building to ensure energy efficiency and to introduce a new lighting concept.
