Chronic senile rhinitis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The chronic senile rhinitis , commonly called age clapboard, corresponds to a persistent chronic watery colds in the elderly.

This form of rhinitis is quite common in old age; more precise figures are not available because the changes in the age of the nose have so far been little researched.

causes

In this multifactorial syndrome , degenerative changes in the nasal mucosa on the one hand, changes in the shape of the nose on the other, and finally side effects of drugs in the frequently multimorbid patients are discussed.

Symptoms

Partly dry nose, partly watery constant cold.

therapy

Depending on the symptoms, moistening the nose with brine spray etc. or decongestant nasal drops ( sympathomimetics ), which may only be used for a short time due to the familiar habit ( privinism ). The better alternative for watery rhinitis is the use of topical corticosteroids (nasal spray).
