Chun-ma (also K-SAM ) is a South Korean all-weather, day-night, autonomous and ECM- resistant anti-aircraft missile system for combating helicopters and fighter planes at low to medium altitude. It is supplemented by the K30 Biho system.

description

The Chun-ma anti-aircraft missile system is the Korean version of the French Crotale / Shahine anti-aircraft missile system. The short-range anti-aircraft missile system was developed in order to be able to effectively protect the Korean ground forces or important facilities against air attacks. The system is located on a chain-driven armored vehicle.

The Chun-ma program was launched in 1989 by the South Korean government. In 1999, the South Korean Army ordered 48 systems with a total value of 330 million euros. The delivery was completed in 2005. In December 2003 - parallel to the first order - an additional 66 systems were ordered for 470 million euros. The second contingent should be delivered by 2009.

technology

The weapon station of the Chun-ma with a total of eight rocket launch containers

The Chun-ma anti-aircraft system is equipped with eight missile launch containers, four each to the left and right of the follower radar in the 2 × 2 configuration. The rockets are guided to the target by radio commands and have proximity fuses.

The anti-aircraft tank is equipped with two radar systems. For target reconnaissance, the Chun-ma has a powerful Doppler omnidirectional search radar on the top of the tower with a range of 20 kilometers, which works in the S-band . It can pursue and identify eight goals at the same time. The follow-up radar, which works in Ku-band and has a range of 16 kilometers, is located on the tower front . It can track flight targets of various speeds, from hovering helicopters to Mach-2 aircraft. The vehicle is also equipped with TV and FLIR cameras that have a maximum range of 15 kilometers.
