The chupalla [ tʃuˈpaʎa ] is a straw hat that is traditionally worn by Chilean horsemen, the huasos .

The name is derived from achupalla , a Chilean dialect word for the bromeliad , the fibers of which the hats were originally made from. Today the production from wheat or rice straw predominates.
