history
The company was founded in 2004. Half a year after it was founded, the company received approval to operate satellites at the orbital position 129 ° West. In 2005 the company started operations.
Satellites
In 2005, Ciel rented the EchoStar 5 satellite from Echostar , which acts as Ciel 1 for the company. This has reached the end of life status since 2009 and has been space junk ever since .
The company commissioned Thales Alenia Space to build the Ciel 2 satellite . In 2006 the first company-owned satellite was completed. The company operates this satellite at the orbital position 129 ° West. It can serve North America with TV and broadband services. The Ciel Satellite Group has authorization to operate satellites at six additional positions.
