Cielito Lindo
Cielito lindo is a popular Mexican folk song that has the status of a “second national anthem ”. It was written in 1882 by Quirino Fidelino Mendoza y Cortés (1862–1957).
meaning
Cielito is the diminutive of the word cielo (heaven). The addition of the suffix it is common in Mexico; For example cervezita ( little beer) instead of cerveza (beer) or - as in this song - ojitos (little eyes) instead of ojos (eyes). Cielito therefore means little heaven , but in this specific case it is more of a person who is very close to you and therefore means something like darling or treasure . Lindo means beautiful or cute . Literally translated it means beautiful heaven , but figuratively it means my darling .
