Cifrão
Cifrão [ sifɾɐw ] ( ) is the symbol of different Escudo - currencies .
The cifrão is used in Cape Verde ( CVE ). In Portugal ( PTE according to ISO 4217 ) it was common until 2002, in Portuguese Timor ( TPE ) until 1976.
This sign is very similar to the " $ " ( peso or dollar sign ), but in contrast to this it is always written with two dashes ( ). The Unicode standard does not differentiate between these versions; depending on the character set, one or two lines are used for printing. The cifrão is placed between the number of the escudo and that of the centavos : 123.45 are escudos .
In LaTeX , the symbol can be created using the command from the textcomp package .
