Ciperis de Vignevaux

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ciperis de Vignevaux is an old French epic ( Chanson de geste ) that has only been handed down with gaps. Behind Ciperis is the historic Frankish King Childerich II.

Tradition, text collection and dating

7,895 Alexandrians in 250 Laissen have been preserved. The text is difficult to date: the text was probably written between the middle of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century. Its author is likely to come from the Comté de Vignevaux. A prose version was written in the 15th century, then printed three times in the 15th and 16th centuries, and finally updated in 1842 and included in the Bibliothèque bleue.
