Citadellstrasse 14

House Citadellstrasse 14

The house Citadellstraße 14 in Dusseldorf is a listed building. It was built 1692–1698 by the elector fortress builder Michael Cagnon as a residential building. The “stately three-wing complex” is a “remarkable example” of the development on Düsseldorf's Citadellstrasse. The seven-axis facade facing Citadellstrasse is structured with four pilasters.

For Paul Sültenfuß it is an example of a mansard roof house. The mansards are simple and unadorned like the large window frames. Instead of segment-like lintels, they have simple triangular gables. Similar to the older Grupellohaus , the mansards are not continuously arranged in the window axes of the lower floors. The important thing here is the position of the pilasters framing the central axes: “The main accent of the beautiful effect of the stately house lies in the Ionic pilaster architecture. which frame the three central axes of the ground floor and the first floor and support the structure of the three central axes of the upper floor, which also protrudes like a risalit, via an architrave ”.
