Classical Association of the Middle West and South

The Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) is an American association for the promotion of antiquity research and its didactics. It pursues this goal through competitions, financial support for projects, publications and annual meetings. Membership is open to anyone interested. The society is particularly aimed at teachers, schoolchildren and students.

The CAMWS was founded in 1905 at the University of Chicago . Its first president was William Gwathmey Manly . Originally, 22 US states participated in it. 31 states and three Canadian provinces are currently involved.

The seat is in Monmouth (Illinois) . The journal of the CAMWS is The Classical Journal , which has appeared quarterly since the foundation of the society.
