Claudio Castellini (born March 3, 1966 ) is an Italian comic artist .

Life and work

Castellini, whose drawing style is influenced by the Americans Neal Adams and John Buscema , among others , began to work as a full-time comic artist in the late 1980s. His first published work, a story about the character "Dylan Dog" ( Dylan Dog # 30), was published in 1989 by the Italian publisher Sergio Bonelli Editore.

In 1991, Castellini presented the science fiction series Nathan Never , the cover of which he drew up to issue # 59 (1996), for the first time a comic whose concept he had developed himself.

Shortly thereafter, he was able to gain a foothold on the US comic market: There he initially found work as a draftsman for the series Fantastic Four: Unlimited (1993-1994; # 4-13), as well as co-draftsman for projects such as Silver Surfer: Annual # 7 (1994) and Official marvel index to the X-Men # 5 (1994). With that of Ron Marz and Peter David wrote, cross-publisher miniseries DC vs. Marvel / Marvel vs. DC from 1996, for which Castellini provided the drawings alongside Dan Jurgens , he became known throughout the industry in the United States. Projects followed such as the graphic novel Silver Surfer: Dangerous Artifacts (1996) , also written by Marz , a poster for Green Lantern Gallery # 1 (1996), and for the miniseries Conan the Barbarian: Conan and the Stalker of the Woods ( 1997; 1-3) and Conan the Barbarian: River of Blood (1998; # 1-3).

In addition, there were orders as a cover artist for Ekectra Magazine (1996; # 1-2) and Cosmic Powers: Unlimited (1995; # 1-4). Castellini then took on numerous guest drawing jobs , for example for Best Comics # 24, Starblast # 1 (1994), Captain Marvel # 1 (1995), Peter Parker: Spider-Man (1997; # 77), Shadow & Light # 3 (1998), Blade: Sins of the Father # 1 (1998), X-Men Unlimited # 23 (1998), Star Wars: Star Wars Tales # 1-2 (1999), Dark Horse Presents # 137, CrossGen Chronicles # 1 (2000), CrossGen Sampler # 1 (2000), Robotech # 5 (2003; cover), Thundercats: The Return # 4 (2003; cover), The Mighty Thor: Lord of Asgard # 57, 66 (2003), Captain Marvel # 9 (2003 ), America's Best Comics (2004), Fantastic Four: Foes # 6 (2005) and Red Sonja # 14 (2006).

In his younger years, Castellini took on more permanent engagements for the six-part miniseries Wolverine: The End (2004), as well as the series Batman: Gotham Knights (2005; # 19, 69-74), Superman / Batman (2007; # 37, 38) and Countdown (2007; # 22, 24-26).
