Clear Channel Schweiz AG is a media company based in Hünenberg , Canton Zug . The company operates throughout Switzerland and is a subsidiary of the Clear Channel International Group, the international division of Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc. This is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

activity

Clear Channel is active in the field of outdoor advertising . The range in Switzerland includes over 21,000 classic and digital advertising spaces / poster sites on the street (private and public property), in shopping centers, at petrol stations and airports.

In the past, the quasi-monopoly APG SGA owned 90 percent of the billboards on public land in Switzerland. In 2012, the price watchdog therefore demanded that the contracts for the management of the billboards be put out to tender. In the following years, Clear Channel Switzerland repeatedly outbid its competitor APG in tendering for large advertising spaces and positioned itself as a pioneer for competition.

history

The company was founded in 1924 under the name "Poster and Propaganda AG " by Rudolf and Wanda Häuptli Schiller. Later the name was shortened to " Plakanda ". In 1989 the family business is sold to Distral Holding AG and later to the Swiss entrepreneur Peter Gmür. The company, officially renamed Plakanda AG in 1991, is experiencing a boom. In 1999 Interpubli Werbe AG was acquired. Due to the merger with AWI and OFEX AG, the billboard rises to number two in the Swiss outdoor advertising market.

In 1999 Plakanda Holding AG is sold to Clear Channel Outdoor. In 2005, the Clear Channel Group expanded its range to include the poster network of Posterron AG, followed in the same year by the acquisition of Infotrak AG, and in 2006 by the takeover of Felice GmbH.

In 2008 the private equity companies Thomas H. Lee Partners and Bain Capital take over the Clear Channel group.

Under Jürg Rötheli, CEO from 2010 to 2016, all group companies are consolidated into Clear Channel Schweiz AG. In 2014 Clear Channel Schweiz AG celebrates its 90th anniversary.

As of 2020, Clear Channel lost the marketing of all advertising space at Zurich Airport , as it was defeated in the corresponding tender against APG.
