Cliff Carpenter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cliff Carpenter (also: Orchester Cliff Carpenter , Cliff Carpenter und seine Orchester , Cliff Carpenter and his Orchester , Cliff Carpenter Orchestra , Cliff Carpenter US Orchester ) was a German studio orchestra founded by Dieter Zimmermann , which was active under changing direction from 1968 to 1987. It mainly appeared with instrumental cover versions (sometimes with refrained vocals) of popular hits.

The orchestra was founded in 1968 by Dieter Zimmermann as a project for metronomes in order to benefit from the popularity of party instrumental orchestras such as James Last . In 1972 the project moved to Ariola with Zimmermann and hired Alexander Gordan as arranger . When Zimmermann died of leukemia in the autumn of 1978 at the age of 34, the project had already passed its zenith, but Ariola wanted it not to go under. So Gordan took over the management. According to his information, over 360 titles from this ensemble have been published by Ariola alone.

Drummer Tom Holm and jazz pianist Eugen Cicero played in the orchestra .

Among the tracks played were some songs made famous by Boney M. , the melody being played by the horns . 12 of these songs were released as a compilation in 1982 under the title Cliff Carpenter Plays Boney M. Hits .
