Club de Pescadores in Buenos Aires

The clubhouse of the Club de Pescadores (German: Club der Fischer) is located in the Palermo district on the banks of the Río de la Plata in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires .

description

The club was founded in 1903. The site is a former pier which, built by a French company, was used to unload coal tugs. When the pier was no longer needed for this purpose, it initially fell into disrepair. Anglers who met here regularly decided to repair it and build a small hut. On August 10, 1905, a storm destroyed the pier. This did not deter the fishermen and they continued their activities, including a regular fishing competition.

In 1926 a plan was initiated to build a new pier. This should also include a club building for meetings. In 1928 the plan was approved by the President and by 1930 work on the new pier was completed. The clubhouse, which still exists today, was designed by José N. Quartino and officially opened on January 16, 1937 in the presence of President Agustín P. Justo .

In 2001 the ensemble was declared a National Historic Monument (Decreto 766/01) and the clubhouse has become one of the landmarks of the city of Buenos Aires.
