Impartiaux Club

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Club des Impartiaux (French for objective, impartial society ) was formed in 1789. It was founded by monarchists who advocated parliamentary kingship. At first they met in the Augustinian monastery , later at 8 rue de la Michodière. The club's motto was justice, truth, trust . Under its president Pierre-Victor Malouet , the club pursued a hostile policy against the Jacobins . With the end of the Constituent Assembly and the formation of the National Legislative Assembly in autumn 1791, the club disappeared. Nevertheless, the term Impartiaux for the representatives of this political direction also persisted in this one.

In parallel with the active society, a newspaper called the Journal des Impartiaux was published. The chief editor was the Abbé Salles de la Salle.
