Cocceius Naso

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cocceius Naso (his prenomen is not known) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD .

By military diplomas that are dated July 17, 122, 16 June 123 and in 125/126, there is evidence that Naso governor of the province Dacia inferior was; he therefore held this office from at least 122 to 126. Since he was presumably the first governor of the newly established province, he should have headed the province as early as 120/121.

The family of Cocceius Naso probably came from Italy; she must have had Roman citizenship for a long time.

Remarks

  1. According to Werner Eck , Andreas Pangerl (2008) it is unlikely that the Naso family was granted Roman citizenship (and thus usually the gentile name Cocceius ) by Emperor Nerva .
