Coding Scheme

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the packet-switched extension of the GSM network - GPRS - four different coding schemes ( CS for short , from English for "coding scheme") are used:

  • CS-1 provides a net data rate of 8.0 kbit / s, which is roughly the data throughput of a standard GSM - time slot of 9.8 kbit / s.
  • CS-2 transmits 12.0 kBit / s, which is slightly less than a time slot in high-speed GSM
  • CS-3 (14.4 kBit / s) offers a slightly higher data rate.
  • CS-4 (20.0 kBit / s) offers the largest transmission capacity, but has no data backup and can therefore hardly be used on the air interface even under optimal conditions .

The specified transmission rates are the data transmission rate per time slot ( GPRS channel bundling).

Depending on the transmission quality, there is a dynamic switch between the coding schemes .
