Coenenchyma

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The coenenchyme forms the trunk of the soft corals (Alcyonacea). In gorgonians it is the living tissue that covers the axial skeleton , which consists of gorgonin or fused sclerites . In tube corals , the coenenchyme is the tissue that overgrows the hard substrate on which the animals live.

The polyps of the corals are embedded in the coenenchyma .
