Colonial service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Colonial Service ( German : Colonial Service ) was a public service that held the administrative sovereignty of the British Empire under the authority of the Secretary of State for the Colonies and the Colonial Office in London .

Before the 1930s, there was no uniform colonial service , nor were there any uniform services. Each colony and protectorate had its own services and future officers applied directly to the respective administration. If they wanted to be transferred to another colony, applicants had to apply there independently.

In the late 1960s, the Colonial Service was merged with the UK Diplomatic Service .
