The Colt NEW HOUSE and Colt NEW POLICE revolvers are revolvers from the American manufacturer Colt . They are further developments of the Colt HOUSE revolver manufactured from 1871 and the Colt NEW LINE manufactured from 1873. They were manufactured between 1880 and 1886 and, in contrast to their predecessors, which were optionally made for rim or center fire cartridges, only fired center fire cartridges. Like their predecessors, they are single-action revolvers, where the hammer has to be cocked with the thumb before firing. In terms of size, they were comparable to the Colt Lightning Double Action Revolvers , which fired the same ammunition.

Most Colt NEW HOUSE revolvers manufactured after 1880 had a 2¼ inch barrel. They fired centerfire black powder cartridges long and short in calibers .38 (more rarely calibers .32 and .41). In contrast to their predecessors, the NEW LINE revolvers with a “bird's head handle”, they had a larger handle that was flat at the bottom. In addition, they had a loading flap attached to the right side of the frame with a recess that could be opened with a fingernail. The short-barreled NEW HOUSE revolvers did not have a case ejector, the drum was removed for unloading, and the cases could be ejected with the drum axis. It is interesting that one of the NEW HOUSE revolvers exists with a 10 inch (25.4 cm) barrel.

In 1882 the NEW POLICE variant was added. Most of these revolvers had a 2¼ inch barrel, they were used as pocket revolvers, barrel lengths of 4¼ inches (11 cm), 5 inches (12.7 cm) and 6 inches (15.2 cm) are rarer. NEW POLICE revolvers with a barrel longer than 4¼ inches also had a case ejector, the construction of which corresponded to that of the Colt Single Action in a smaller version. The NEW POLICE revolvers depicted a policeman and a gangster (cop and thug) on the handle shells at the bottom.

A total of 25,700 pieces of the NEW HOUSE and NEW POLICE revolvers were produced from 1880 to 1886.
