The late Latin name means dove . The dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit in Christianity . This was the name of several early saints , both male and female, notably the 6th century Irish monk Saint Columba who founded a monastery on the island of Iona off the coast of Scotland . He is credited with converting Scotland to Christianity.
