Comisión de Investigación de Accidentes e Incidentes de Aviación Civil
Comisión de Investigación de Accidentes e Incidentes de Aviación Civil (CIAIAC) is the Spanish investigative authority for aircraft accidents and incidents on Spanish territory, similar to the German Federal Agency for Aircraft Accident Investigation .
The CIAIAC's task is to objectively investigate aircraft accidents such as crashes and incidents such as near collisions from a technical point of view. The aim of the investigation is to clarify the circumstances that led to the disruption and, if necessary, to publish safety information in order to avoid future accidents.
The headquarters of the CIAIAC is located in the capital Madrid and reports to the Ministerio de Fomento, Dirección General de Aviación Civil (Ministry of Transport). In the event of accidents abroad, the CIAIAC works closely with the relevant authorities in the respective country.
Its legal basis is based on Law 21/2003, of July 3, 2003 Seguridad Aérea published with BOE on July 8, 2003 and at EU level on Council Directive 94/56 / EC of November 21, 1994 on principles for the Investigation of accidents and incidents in civil aviation and the ICAO agreement .
