The Sudanese Communist Party ( Arabic الحزب الشيوعي السوداني, DMG al-ḥizb aš-šuyūʿī as-sūdānī , English Sudanese Communist Party , abbreviation SCP ) is a communist party in the Republic of Sudan .

The SCP and the South African Communist Party recently had joint African Left Networks meeting to facilitate the parties' larger society among African Communists . The official color of the SCP is red.

history

Founded in 1946, it was a major force in Sudanese politics (and one of the two most influential communist parties in the Arab world, alongside the Iraqi Communist Party ) until 1971 when military ruler Gaafar al-Nimeiry launched a wave of repression against the party - after a failed coup in which some communist officers were involved. Abd al-Chaliq Mahjub , Joseph Garang , Alschafi Ahmed Elschikh , Babkir Elnour and Haschim Elatta (the most famous party leader) were executed .

From 2006 the SCP was led by Muhammad Ibrahim Nugud and only plays a marginal role. However, the party enjoys the support of a wide range of democratically-minded Sudanese society, including, according to Nugub, the "workers, farmers, students, women's groups, minorities, the Nuba mountain population , the South Sudanese and the population of Darfur ." Human rights activist Suleman Hamid El Haj is the party's assistant secretary and spokesman. He advocates a return to democracy and is against the possible secession of South Sudan . The somewhat freer political climate has enabled the party to be more active since the signing of the comprehensive peace agreement . Party leader Mohammed Ibrahim Nugud came from two decades of hiding. Party members who suffered during the decades of NIF rule had asked him to be more active, but Nugud feared being arrested. Nugud visited Juba, South Sudan on November 28, 2008 for the first time in two decades at the invitation of the southern communists. The trip was "aimed at" strengthening the SCP's activities in South Sudan. He was received by SPLM Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Ann Itto .
