Community of Interest

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Community of Interest (German Interest Group ) is a term that most of the computer-assisted group work was coined. This is a group of people who have a common interest in a certain topic, such as B. Stamp collectors or fans of a pop group. The members of the group usually exchange ideas and thoughts about their area of interest.

The concept is closely linked to that of the Community of Practice . These are groups of people who have in common the participation in a process or the presence in a common place (e.g. workplace, residential area), but who nevertheless pursue different goals.

Communities in general

The members of a community do not have to work on a common problem, they just have common interests. In rare cases an overarching group goal may exist here; a striking difference to teams is still the spatial and organizational separation of the work areas of the members (and thus the lack of common artifacts).
