Compendium of Chemical Terminology

The Compendium of Chemical Terminology , also known as the Gold Book ( ISBN 0-86542-684-8 ), is a publication of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry , which contains general and internationally recognized definitions for terms used in chemistry .

Work on the book, first published in 1987, began by Victor Gold (hence the name). The second edition , edited by Alan D. McNaught and Andrew Wilkinson , was published in 1997. A slightly expanded version is also freely available on the Internet.
