Compiz Fusion is a collection of plugins and a configuration system for Compiz . Compiz Fusion is the result of the merger of the old plugin collection “Compiz Extras” and the parts of Beryl , which are independent of the core of the window manager.

The aim of the project is to port all features from Beryl to Compiz and to write new plugins. At the same time, Beryl was discontinued and some changes to the Beryl core were incorporated into Compiz.

history

On October 4th, 2007, openSUSE 10.3 was the first major Linux distribution to ship with Compiz Fusion. On October 9 and 18, 2007, Mandriva 2008 and Ubuntu 7.10 followed with the use of Compiz Fusion as the standard window manager.

On February 4, 2009 it was announced that Compiz Fusion and Compiz will be merged (under the name Compiz) and that the project will be driven forward by a newly formed Compiz Council.
