Compliment de clôture

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term “ Compliment de Clôture ” describes the custom of the 18th century in France, and especially at the Comédie-Française , that an actor gave an elaborate address to the audience after the end of the last performance before the two-week break between Palm Sunday and White Sunday . From 1790 on, patriotic and revolutionary speeches were also given on this occasion.
