Computer Assisted Trading System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Computer Assisted Trading System ( CATS-OS ) is an off-exchange trading platform of the Stuttgart Stock Exchange for securities trading . The term CATS is an acronym and stands for Citibank Automated Trading System, as Citibank played a key role in the development of the platform.

The system started in 1995 with the trading of Citibank warrants in Germany. CATS is the oldest electronic communication network in Germany. In the course of time the product range was expanded to include the entire securities area. More than 100 banks from 13 countries participate in CATS-OS. Private customers can also trade securities via CATS-OS through these banks.

Trading is possible Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. CET . A particular advantage is that there is no minimum trade size for orders. The platform has expanded over the years and supports two trading methods:

cats-os
enables interactive, bilateral trading in the request-for-quote procedure (RfQ) in numerous categories and in the entire European market.
cats-ls
supports order management for the same securities and distribution channels with market orders, limit orders, stop-loss, buy, OCO and other order types.

The operator offers additional services such as the distribution of issuer data via cats-md.

Current

One of the biggest mistrades in history was handled via the cats-os platform between biw-Bank and BNP Paribas , when a securities dealer received EUR 162 million in securities for EUR 324,000.
