Coney Island Polar Bear Club

Founded in 1903, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest ice swimming club in the United States . Every Sunday from October to April, its members swim in the Atlantic off Coney Island . Swimmers from all over the USA take part in the annual New Year's swim (2005: 300 participants, 6000 spectators).

The association became known through a contribution to global warming in The Daily Show with Jon Stewart .
