Confederación Republicana de Acción Cívica

The Confederación Republicana de Acción Cívica de Obreros y Empleados de Chile ( CORA ) was a Chilean party . The party was founded in December 1929 by lawyer and politician Benjamin Claro Velasco .

The CORA pursued the following main objectives:

  • Fight against any kind of dictatorship
  • Respect for the constitution and the law
  • Proportional representation
  • Admission of women to political activities and offices

Its members were predominantly blue-collar workers, civil servants, railway workers, trade unionists and anarchists . During the reign of Carlos Ibáñez del Campo , the party had 14 seats and one senator in the Congreso Termal in 1930 .

A general strike exacerbated the situation and forced Carlos Ibáñez to resign on July 26, 1931. The CORA party was dissolved in the fall of 1932 at the end of the reign in the Congreso Termal.
