Conoco Inc. was a petroleum company founded in 1875 as the Continental Oil and Transportation Company .
In 1981, Conoco was taken over by DuPont , which, however, separated from Conoco in 1999. In 2002 Conoco merged with the Phillips Petroleum Company to form ConocoPhillips . The brand name Conoco will continue to be used.
