Convariety

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In botany, conviviality (also conviviality ) is a rank or a taxon in this rank. It is a subunit of the species and stands between subspecies and variety . The abbreviation is convar.

This taxon is only used to describe cultivated plants .

The taxon was introduced in 1952 by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN), but was no longer adopted in later editions of the code. The International Code of the Nomenclature of Cultivated Plants (ICNCP) took over the taxon in 1953 from the ICBN, but abolished it in 1995 together with other taxa such as “variety” or “type” and replaced it with the group . Regardless, the term is still in use and its reintroduction is being discussed.
