Cop map

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cop Map is an interactive map in which anyone worldwide can report police controls. It was created in October 2018 by the Munich artist and activist collectives "Polizeiklasse" and Peng! . After the Bavarian police had considerably expanded their powers through the new Police Task Act, they decided to use this project to draw attention to the "impending danger" that the police represent. In addition, it should address problems such as racial profiling in the police and give those affected the opportunity to avoid the police. In the first month, 31,404 police checks were reported.

The project is viewed critically by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior . Helmut Teichmann State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Interior stated that it “does not violate applicable law”. But there is a risk that criminals will be warned about the police through the portal, according to a spokesman for the police union in Berlin.
