Copernicus Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copernicus Prize (until 2014 the Kopernikus Prize ) is a science prize that is awarded to a German and a Polish scientist for their commitment to scientific cooperation. The award is named after the researcher Nikolaus Kopernikus . It has been awarded every two years since 2006, jointly by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Foundation for Polish Science (Fundacja na rzecz Nauki Polskiej, FNP).

In December 2014, the DFG Main Committee decided to realign the Copernicus Prize. The prize money, which is shared between the winners, has been increased to 200,000 euros, self-nominations are now possible and the uniform Latin spelling “Copernicus” replaces “Kopernikus”, as the prize was previously called.
